Last term of 2nd year.

How scary. This project is shorter than the last, having only about 5 weeks now to complete it. With this in mind, carrying on a similar theme is a wise idea to me. I'm going to be looking at curiosites and collections, focusing on bones, coral and horns. I also intend to introduce embroidery to my work. It's been a while since I've picked up a needle and thread so we'll see how that goes.

Lacking.

Remembering to update this is challenging. But I've come to the end of the last project (and the start of the next) so I thought I'd catch up and show some things that I ended up with last term.

A slight change of direction.

If not a major one.
So only a meer week into this project and a near breakdown, I decided to change its direction before it was too late to turn it around. By thinking back to previous projects, and what I have enjoyed and found sucessful so far, I wanted to further explore the theme of natural history. After a trip to the castle (one of my favourite places to unwind in Norwich) I began to generate ideas and feel much more comfortable in my practice. We are only halfway through and already I have near to the total amount I handed in for the last project. It's Saturday night and I've stayed in doing work and have actually enjoyed it. That has to be saying something.

From the word go...

Ok so now Christmas is over and it's a brand spanking new year I have no excuse not to throw myself into this new project. I'm basing it on shadow and light, negetive spaces and anything else I fancy doing at the time. Yes, broad, I know, but I'm hoping I'll pull it together somehow. Our class will be entering the Bradford Textile Society project this term also which is very exciting. Well then, no time for procrastinating, best get cracking.

The inability to do better.

So I got 10 marks less than my best for this project. Not that I mind, I definitely deserved it. However, I'm definitely going to do better for the next project even if it kills me.

Oh right, I do textiles don't I?

So I decided it is probably about time to put a few textile processes into practice seeing as I would quite like to pass this unit. So I got a few screens made up today and got a few photos digitally printed because I quite fancied doing a bit of devore. Hopefully I won't have completly forget how to do it.

Suddenly motivated.

I've been working on how to create space style images using light and my variety of cameras.
This project has been going really slow but I had a few tutorials this week and feel suddenly inspired to try doing as much as I can. I'm feeling better about it now, shame 6 weeks have been wasted.

I got some photos developed.

We did it.

So yesterday came at last and it was time to set up for Tribute. After little sleep and alot of panicing I set off to set up my work for the exhibition. I was honoured that I'd been asked by Mathew and Siobhan to exhibit but was questioning the work I was going to put up right until the last minute. After many hours of hammering and rearranging my work, and the purchase of a chair later, I was finally finished.
The private view was very successful and I can't say thank you enough to Mathew Parkin and Siobhan Fitt-Sterling for asking me to participate. Also well done to the other exhibitors. It was a stunning show.
If you are around in Norwich this week (2nd Nov-7th Nov) then the exhibition will be on all week from 10am till 5pm and is worth a visit.

Tribute.

So a while back some of my lovely friends from Visual Studies kindly asked if I would like to particpate with them in an exhibtion this coming November at the STEW gallery in Norwich. Of course I agreed straight away.
Over summer the theme tribute was agreed for the exhibition. I originally paniced, but then I realised that I was sitting in a Motel room in America at the time, having just visited multiple sites of tribute on my journey so I had inspiration up to the eyeballs.
So for the exhibition I have decided to do a Tribute to a Tribute.

Space and Lace?

So I probably should be out with my friends, having fun and junk, but I'm tired so instead I'm going to write what you can expect of me next.
I've decided to base my new brief around astronomy (so like stars and planets and stuff ha).
I intend to make fabric and a body of work based on the surfaces of planets and constellations of stars and that kind of general imagery. I'm liking the circular theme that's emerging as I do more research. Oh I just love circles.
We shall see how it all turns out.

Sorry for the neglect.

I promise I'll do better.

But so far this summer has been pretty amazing.
Seen some interesting things and been to some awesome places, and most of all spent time with some of the best people I know.

And the results are in...

I got my results today for the last unit.
I got a 68, which is 2 marks off a first.
I am happy.

Next year I'm aiming for those 2 marks. Fingers crossed.

2 to go.

So it's pretty much the end of my first year at University, and frankly it's been SWEETTTT.

At the end of the final unit we were given the opportunity to exhibit our final pieces at St Margerets Church on St Benedicts in Norwich, which turned out to be a beautiful space.
